Migration to the Cloud: Frequently Asked Questions
We’re committed to making your transition to the cloud clear, predictable, and well supported. This FAQ is designed to answer common questions, set expectations, and explain how we’ll work with you to ensure a smooth migration without disrupting your operations.
Every migration is planned in partnership with you. You can expect the same care, communication, and support you’ve come to expect from our team throughout this migration process. Without further ado, let’s jump into it!
- Why are migrating all customers to the cloud?
- We’re moving all MCM platform customers to the cloud to ensure MCM’s platform can continue to meet evolving security, reliability, and scalability requirements. Cloud infrastructure allows us to maintain a consistent, modern foundation for the system so it can be monitored, updated, and supported more effectively over time.
In fact, the majority of MCM customers are on the cloud today, and they enjoy the first access to new features, quicker support, and other benefits.
- What benefits does the cloud provide compared to on-prem?
- The cloud offers several advantages over on-premise systems, including greater reliability, enhanced security in a SOC 2 Type II–compliant environment, improved efficiency and accessibility, and faster maintenance and support. It also enables more seamless third-party integrations. Additionally, new features—such as Power BI dashboards—are only available in the cloud, ensuring users always have access to the latest capabilities as soon as they’re released.
- Is on-premise deployment being discontinued?
- Our long-term platform strategy is focused on cloud delivery. While on-premise instances will not be supported or updated past December 31, 2027, we are committed to working closely with customers to plan a transition that aligns with their operational needs.
- If so, what is the expected timeline?
- Our on-premise solution will retire December 31, 2027, therefore all migrations will be performed in advance of that date.
- How does this transition support long-term reliability and performance?
- The transition to the cloud strengthens long-term reliability and performance by leveraging Microsoft Azure’s secure, continuously monitored infrastructure. With built-in redundancy, automated updates, and scalable resources, the platform delivers consistent uptime, faster support, and dependable performance over time.
- How long does a typical migration take? Will there be downtime?
- Once we have all data, attachments, and page definitions pulled from your on-prem environment, it will take approximately 4 hours to complete the migration.
Please note that you may still access your on-prem solution during this time, but any changes made will not be reflected in the new environment. Upon completion of the migration, the on-prem solution will be retired.
- Will workflows or functionality change?
- Not only will your workflows and functionality remain consistent, but you will actually enjoy increased platform functionality, better accessibility, and additional features on cloud. For example, you’ll get immediate access to our newest features like our streamlined, ADA-compliant UI and granular search tools.
- Will users need to change how they access the system?
- You will receive a new URL from which to log in, but you will now have the ability to streamline your sign in with single sign-on (SSO), which enhances security and speeds up the sign-on process.
- Will integrations be affected?
- Integrations are addressed as part of the migration planning process to help ensure continuity. They are reviewed in detail with our implementation and development team to identify any needs and resources in advance and ensure continuity.
- How is migration planned?
- Migration is planned collaboratively with your team. We review your environment, understand your operational needs, and map out a step-by-step plan that keeps your systems running smoothly. Nothing is executed without your full understanding and agreement, and we ensure the plan is tailored to your timing and priorities.
- Can we choose the timing?
- We’ll work with you to schedule a migration date that meets the December 31, 2027 deadline, aligns with your operational priorities, and minimizes disruption.
- What if we aren’t ready yet?
- Your readiness is important to us. MCM will plan the migration in coordination with your team to help ensure we do everything we can to get you ready and migrate you before the deadline.
- What preparation is required from our team?
- Preparation is minimal and guided by our Customer Success team. We’ll help you understand what changes to expect, what data or systems need attention, and how your team can be ready for a smooth transition—all without adding unnecessary burden to your day-to-day operations. Your dedicated Customer Success Manager will be reaching out shortly to introduce themselves and start the process. You can also reach out to us via this contact form with any questions or if you’re ready to get started.
- What happens to our historical data?
- All of your historical data will be transferred to the new environment. If there is any excess data you’d like to scrub from your instance, this migration poses an ideal opportunity to do so. The MCM team can help you with this process as we scope the migration.
- Where is our data hosted?
- Customer data is hosted in Microsoft Azure’s secure, enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure, which is designed for high availability, redundancy, and operational continuity. U.S.-based customer data is stored in the U.S., while Canadian customer data is stored in Canada to minimize the risk of service interruptions.
- How is data protected during and after migration?
- Data is safeguarded throughout the migration process and once hosted in the cloud. We use advanced security measures, monitoring, and access controls to protect data at all times. Regular backups (full backups nightly and differentials every 2 hours), redundancies, and Microsoft Azure’s enterprise-grade security help ensure continuity, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- How does the cloud improve system reliability?
- Hosting the platform in the cloud provides built-in redundancy, continuous monitoring, and scalable resources that help maintain consistent performance. Automated updates and maintenance combined with frequent backups and alternate power sources ensure that the system stays available, secure, and reliable—reducing the risk of unexpected downtime compared with on-premise environments. MCM customers can expect 99.5% uptime on the cloud.
- Who will support us through the migration?
- Going forward, you will have a dedicated Customer Success Manager who will be your go-to resource through every step of the migration—they will be reaching out to you shortly to introduce themselves and start the process.
Additionally, they will coordinate with MCM’s Delivery, Development, and Support teams and well as spearhead planning, provide guidance, and ensure your team has the support needed to make the transition smooth and predictable.
- What support is available after we move to the cloud?
- MCM’s Support team is on deck to ensure ongoing assistance so your operations continue smoothly and your team can take full advantage of the cloud platform.
- Who do we contact with questions or concerns?
- Your Customer Success Manager is your go-to contact for all migration-related or post-migration questions. They will connect you with the right experts if additional technical support is needed, providing a single, trusted point of contact throughout the transition.
You can also reach out to us via the contact form we’ve linked at the bottom of that page with any questions you may have.
